I have recently been chatting to Dion Parry, the lovely instructor at the brand new Zumba Gold classes that have recently started here at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre on a Tuesday afternoon at 1.30pm. I had never heard of Zumba Gold before she contacted me to book her sessions in here, and I wanted to know more!!
My first question .... "Dion, just what on earth is ZUMBA GOLD ???!"
Dion:- "Zumba Gold is a specifically designed fitness programme developed with the intention of bringing the Zumba experience to the active older adult, the beginner participant, and other special populations that may need modifications for success."
Me:- "Hmmm....that sounds interesting, can you tell me more, just so I don't give out the wrong information to anyone at the Centre who asks about it?"
Dion:- "Well, in practice, this means that if you have medical issues, physical limitations or are a complete Zumba beginner, then this class will be ideal for you!! It still has all the fun, sweat and workout of a traditional Zumba class, but with the moves designed to be lower impact."
Me:- "Fantastic, that sounds like something that many local people would really benefit from. So, how long have you been instructing Zumba? Tell me a bit about yourself!!"
Dion:- "I've been instructing Zumba for over a year now. I have previous dance experience and am really excited by the whole Zumba experience so far. I've recently qualified to teach ZUMBA GOLD and have two classes running locally, including the one at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre. It has been a pleasure to explore this part of my journey, I am already finding it so rewarding , not only to see the individual benefits of my attendees to the sessions, but also the sense of community it is building too."
Me:- "That is marvellous Dion, it sounds like a win-win situation. Attendees are increasing their fitness, PLUS making friends in a fun atmosphere. If anyone reading this is interested in joining your class, what should they now do?"
Dion:- "There is no need to book their place. They can just turn up at the sessions on a Tuesday, in good time for the 1.30pm start. They should wear comfy clothes/footwear they can move around easily in. The cost is £4 per session. I really look forward to seeing everyone at the sessions every week - don't feel nervous - we are a very friendly crowd!!" .
